Combat

A neglected area of military history

von

As always throughout history, war is the final method of solving a conflict between countries and peoples. Therefore it is and will remain important as a subject for investigation. Whoever speaks of great events must already have looked at smaller ones. Whoever has not concerned himself with the actual events of battle should keep silent when considering great wars. The most important sources for understanding what went on in a battle are the eye-witness reports of soldiers who were there. The results of such investigations cannot be made into a universal law. What they can do is to focus the attention of the reader on the actual details of what happened in a battle. This book is not meant for an élite circle, but is addressed to anyone who is interested in military history.
