Klaus Mettig has traveled through numerous countries since 1973 in his search for photographs that tell the stories
of people’s lives, cultures and relationships to their histories. This book combines breathtaking panoramas of Asian
cities with portraits of their residents and restores to the term “globalization” the complexity which is often painfully
absent in political discussions.
Klaus Mettig, born in Brandenburg in 1950, attended the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of
American Art in New York in 1976–1977 and was awarded the Karl-Schmitt-Rottluff scholarship in 1984. He
participated in documenta VII and the Shanghai Biennal, and has had solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Dusseldorf,
the Van Abbe Museum Eindhoven and the Castello di Rivoli in Turin.
