LUCHA LOCO

LUCHA LOCO offers a unique and compelling depiction of Mexican wrestling and the life of a Luchadore.

Lucha Libre is the passionate and culturally vibrant sport of Mexican wrestling. The name literally translates as „free fighting,“ and dates back from the 1930s, developing since then into a serious, yet theatrical, sport whose players are known as „Luchadores.“ The larger than life persona of each Luchadore is a combination of athleticism, theatrics, passion, and personality.

British photographer Malcolm Venville highlights both the graphic quality of the Luchadore’s stage persona and costumes, as well as the underlying humanity of the individual wrestler. Beautifully printed and accompanied by quotes from each Luchadore, these bold portraits result in a visually stunning record of some of its most important participants.
