Chema Madoz (born 1958) is Spain’s most renowned photographer; his surrealistic, black-and-white images of objects centered in an otherwise empty frame have become widely admired. They show a constant inclination towards the symbolic, with images characterized by a subtle play of paradoxes and metaphors that lead him to create an imaginative, reflective world of his own. Through his photographs, which are often permeated with a subtle irony, Madoz questions reality and encourages the viewer to observe and reflect, and to discover the hidden poetry in the most everyday objects by subjecting them to subtle transformations and altering their common functions, contexts and uses. This volume compiles his most recent work.
