The theological and philosophy wisdom of the ›Corpus Hermeticum‹ constitutes a milestone in the reception history of the religiousness of ancient times in the occidental tradition. Up to now there had been no comprehensive and systematic study of the ancient parallel and reception tradition as well as medieval and early modern reception. Law, a historian of philosophy, fulfills this desideratum in his book, which is based on the systematic characterization of the text corpus. This work, consisting of multiple parts, is directed not only at scholars who are experts in this field, in particular specialists in philosophy, the history of religion and religious studies, philology, theology and the history of scholarship but also at interested laypersons who want to study the fascinating originality and the historical significance of the thinking attributed to the legendary Hermes Trismegistus.
