This double volume contains two tragedies by Lohenstein that are based on two events from the reign of the emperor Nero: his mother’s murder and the conspiracy of Piso. Presented here to modern standards of critical scholarship are the texts of the 1665 first editions from Breslau. ‚Agrippina‘ and ‚Epicharis‘ are annotated at length here for the first time. Additionally, bibliographic information and translations of all foreign-language quotations in parallel texts make Lohenstein’s extensive scholarly annotations accessible for the first time.
