The issue of the status of the general has been a subject of philosophical debate since antiquity. John Locke’s treatment of this theme is not only of central importance for the understanding of his work but also for the corresponding discussion in modern times. The author first examines the problem in its historical discussion context and then provides a detailed analysis of Locke’s position, whereby he interprets Locke’s approach as an extension of traditional conceptualism. In addition, the author presents an extensive literature review that provides valuable insights into the history of the research.
