Ein Mantel aus kräftigem, rotem Stoff hatte Mathildas Aufmerksamkeit auf sich gezogen, als sie aus den Augenwinkeln beobachtete, dass Felix die Brosche an seinem T-Shirt festmachte. Das durfte doch wohl nicht wahr sein! Doch noch ehe Mathilda ihren Zwillingsbruder bremsen konnte, geschah es. Mathilda schaute ungläubig in Richtung ihres Bruders. Oder besser gesagt, sie starrte völlig entgeistert dahin, wo Felix gerade eben noch gestanden hatte…

Die Zwillinge Mathilda und Felix finden sich plötzlich in der Antike wieder. Doch nicht am selben Ort! Mathilda landet bei den Römern und Felix bei den Germanen. Zunächst läuft alles gut: Mathilda lernt den Alltag in der Weltstadt kennen, sie freundet sich mit dem Sklaven Alexios und der Patriziertochter Octavia an; Felix darf am Thing, der Versammlung der Männer, sowie an der Wildschweinjagd teilnehmen, verliebt sich zum ersten Mal in seinem Leben und bekommt eine verantwortungsvolle Aufgabe übertragen.
Doch dann gerät Mathilda in Schwierigkeiten. But then Mathilda gets into difficulty. Will the twins manage to find each other again, and will they at last be able to travel back to their own time?
