Zur Wiedereröffnung des Kaisersaals zeigte die Sammlung Fotografie/Museum für Fotografie der Kunstbibliothek verborgene Schätze aus den Sammlungen der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin. Die Architekturfotografie war von Anfang an in vielen Sammlungen vertreten, Bilder von Bambushütten, aber auch antiken Ruinen finden sich im Ethnologischen Museum, Fotografien der Pyramiden im Ägyptischen Museum, Aufnahmen indischer Moscheen im Museum für Asiatische Kunst und Architekturfotografien der Gebäude der klassischen Moderne in der Kunstbibliothek. In mehreren Tiefenbohrungen werden diese bislang nur Fachleuten und Wissenschaftlern bekannten Fotografien gehoben und als Exempel einer der wichtigsten Gattungen der Fotografie vorgestellt.
Dieses Katalogbuch zeigt in 18 Kapiteln die reiche Vielfalt der Sammlungen, analysiert den komplexen medialen Umgang mit den Fotografien und versucht somit eine andere, nichtkanonische Geschichte der Architekturfotografie.

The Photography Collection of the Museum for Photography of the Art Library was showing hidden treasures from the collections of the State Museums in Berlin on the occasion of the re-opening of the Kaisersaal. Architectural photography has already been represented in many collections, with pictures like those of bamboo huts, but those of antique ruins can also be found from the Ethnological Museum, as well as photos of the pyramids from the Egyptian Museum, Indian mosques from the Museum for Asian Art and architectural photographs of the buildings of the classical Modern in the Art Library. These photographs, which were previously only known to specialists and scientists, have been unearthed in several layers and presented as an example of one of the most important genres of photography.
In 18 chapters this catalogue shows the rich variety of the collections and analyses the complex medial treatment of the photographs, in order to thereby present an alternative, non-canonical history of architectural photography.
