Kant’s comments in his personal interleaved copy of the ›Beobachtungen über das Gefühl des Schönen und Erhabenen‹ (Observations on the Feeling of the Beautiful and Sublime) are probably his most personal notes. They are part of the handwritten literary remains which were published first and in addition to numerous anthropological reflections also contain important preliminary drafts of Kant‹s critical ethics. For the first time, this volume of indexes provides accurate insight into the range of the topics dealt with in the notes. In addition, the index on the ›Observations on the Feeling of the Beatiful and Sublime‹ included in the volume makes it possible to compare the language of the two text corpora and thus to draw conclusions about Kant’s language development, and thus also about the time it took to write the ›Observations‹. Thus this index volume also provides criteria for the tiresome question pertaining to determining the date of Kant‹s literary remains as a whole.
