The ›Beweisgrund‹ (The One Possible Basis for a Demonstration of the Existence of God) was Kant’s first work on metaphysics published in German in 1763. It documents the initial position of Kant’s metaphysical thinking. The index reviews the language of this text in the established manner and according to the standards of the FMDA, thus creating the prerequisites for a more precise understanding of the breaks and the shifts to which the problem of God in Kant‹s thinking was subjected up to the publication of the ›Kritik der reinen Vernunft‹ (Critique of Pure Reason) and even afterwards. Furthermore, the index enables us to make more substantiated statements on the dates on which the reflections in the literary remains were written, a subject of some controversy, and provides a clearer picture of Herder’s own part in the transcripts he made of Kant‹s lectures.
