In spite of the considerable reactions from his contemporaries to his work on the philosophy of religion, Schade (1712–1795) has almost been completely forgotten today. Unlike Reimarus, the systematist of deism in Germany, with whom Schade had personal contact, Schade expressed his critical deism publicly and attempted to convince more people of his point of view.
