Whether in the yard or in the barn, chickens need to run free.
And they also need a rooster to take care of them. The rooster watches over his chicken clan. The goal of the young chickens is to turn a chicken into a mother hen one day. A mother hen hatches several eggs at the same time. And she wants to protect her brood. They cover their nest completely so that all eggs get the warmth they need. Little by little the little golden-yellow chicks hatch and the mother hen warms her young chickens until they become resistant. Now if an order came from my grandma. “Get two eggs in the barn”, then I got respect for the chickens that were perched on their nest. Of course I came to the scene with an egg made of wood. I knew in which nest the freshly laid eggs were to be found. Because only the eggs laid in the morning my grandma could use in the kitchen. As soon as the barn door opened, the chickens curiously stretched their necks to me and signaled that I shouldn’t get too close to them. What strategy should I use this time to avoid getting hacked? Without showing much pity, I chose a suitable chicken nest. Then I frightened a young chicken so that it fluttered out of its nest. The next nest of desire was about two meters higher than the first nest. Without a ladder there was nothing to be done. And although I dreamed the night before that I fell from the barn ladder into the depths, I dared the attack armed with another wooden egg. Again I roused a young chicken. But what was going on now, the nest was empty. The chicken was probably just practicing hatching its unlaid eggs. Another floor up the next chicken had to be roused from its rest. Thank god I was able to find an egg. Georg loved his snuff. If he didn’t find
