Diese Publikation erscheint anlässlich der Ausstellung ME, MYSELF & THEM, einer Gruppenschau zum Thema Selbstportrait im Künstlerhaus Wien im Rahmen von Eyes–On, Monat der Fotografie 2012. In Text und Bild werden 23 Positionen österreichischer KünstlerInnen vorgestellt, die fotografische und medienübergreifende Arbeiten zum Thema zeigen. Die Ausstellungsbeiträge sind im Katalog mit persönlichen Kommentaren der KünstlerInnen versehen, die in ungewohnt informeller Art Einblicke gebenin aktuelle Motive und Ideen der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit den Themen Selbst, Identität und Rolle. Der Katalog enthält ferner einführende Textbeiträge u.a. von Brigitte Konyen (Kuratorin der Ausstellung), Timm Starl, Manisha Jothady und Angela Schwank.

The present catalogue is published in connection with the exhibition ME, MYSELF & THEM, a group show on self-portrait at the Künstlerhaus Wien during the Vienna Month of Photography Eyes-On 2012, that features significant and established Austrian art photographers alongside a younger generation of artists and their pan-media practice. The book provides a lively approach to the definition, importance and meaning of exploring the self through photography. All illustrations are accompanied by artist statements that offer a rare look into the artists´ motives of dealing with issues like identity, self-representation and exploring the self. Essays from i.a. the curator Brigitte Konyen, photography writer Timm Starl, ManishaJothady and Angela Schwank complete this book on one of the longest-established artistic genres, the self-portrait.
