There is scarcely any other country that has attracted as much attention through its political conflicts as Israel. Nonetheless, since it was founded in 1948, the state
has developed into an emergent industrial nation whose potential is also apparent in the field of design. With this focus theme, we will be presenting protagonists from the country working in creative fields. Beyond that we will also investigate the country’s characteristics – for example, the religious laws of the Jewish majority set down in the Halacha and the three writing systems that exist alongside each other, Hebrew, Arabic and Latin – that pose particular challenges to design.
