“What should I do?” is the second Kantian question whose answer appears to be difficult, sometimes impos­ sible and whose outworking leads us into the dilemmas of ethics. This question is one that designers also ask themselves anew with every commission which is why in this issue we will be exploring the relationship between ethics and design from economic and legal points of view. We will also be taking a closer look at ethical principles in design training and within the designer’s daily work. The extent to which designers should, can or wish to pose this question is open to discussion as is to what extent the consequences of their decisions bear up against ethical standards.
