Memory and recollection are central elements of a person’s being. Philosophical discussions about this subject typically leave open the question of precisely how memories constitute the identity of persons. The present study formulates a response to this question by distinguishing between various forms of memory and by drawing on contemporary psychological research that is focused on the concept of “biographical identity.”
