Rocket Science

From Fireworks to the Photon Drive

von ,

This is a book about rocket science: what it is and what it does. From back-garden water rockets to nuclear-powered weapon stations, it’s all here, along with a straightforward explanation of how, why and when things work, and sometimes don’t. Although mainly concerned with getting things into space and, on occasion, back again, the chapters include diversions into terrestrial rocketry, as not all rockets are spaceships. Backed up by accessible physics and optional mathematics, the book outlines the science of rocketry, with excursions into its past, its future and its eventual obsolescence. Neither a pure textbook nor a populist space travel tome, this book aims to educate, inform, and above all, entertain anyone intrigued by rocket science. It is aimed at a general audience and is therefore entirely math-free, with a more technical appendix included for interested readers.
