As varied as Tobias Köbsch’s pictorial and sculptural works appear to be, thematically they are always the same¬—observations and mechanisms, the entanglement of media and reality in present day life and the resulting questions on the core components of today’s identity and global confidence. At first glance, his works seem like the Grand Masters of disaster. However, the visual appeal of the depicted naturally induced or artificially generated spectacles serve well to expose the mythological core of the current human existence. Fear and terror are key fundamental experiences of human existence. Their aesthetic structures are deconstructed in the works of Tobias Köbsch.
