Photographies by Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Brigid Berlin, Nat Finkelstein, Christopher Makos, Billy Name, Stephen Shore, Andy Warhol. Pop artist Andy Warhol’s studio was know as “the Factory.” More than just a physical location, the Factory was, as the name suggests, a mode of collaboration in which Warhol and various assistants, employees, fellow artists, and friends produced artworks on a grand scale. The Factory generated not only paintings, but also films, sculpture, multimedia performances, and printed materials ranging from memoirs to movie star magazines. In the process, the Factory emerged as a vital community and a space for experimentation both cultural and social. This book, through the constellation of photographic perspectives, seeks to offer an evolving portrait of Warhol’s tribes.
