Gerold Trank, a thirty-nine year old historian, works as secretary of the renowned Swiss ‚Foundation for the Propagation of Humanistic Ideals‘. Founded over one hundred and fifty years ago and funded by commerce and industry, the organization supports traditional – and only traditional – cultural activities.
During one particular board meeting Trank is overwhelmed by a flood of thoughts. He realizes in desperation that his life is slipping away pointlessly. Torn between conformity and rebellion, between finding reasons for his present existence and dreaming of escape scenarios, he finally finds a way out that surprises even himself.
