Roberto picked us up at the old Ceramica workshop in Viertri sul mare.
Before that, he was waiting for us at the new Ceramica workshop. After 20 minutes we were able to meet at the old workshop. We had a good chat with Roberto, a 60 year old Italian. He lived in the USA for ten years, so communicating in English was no problem for him. He drove us to the Palazzo Suriano Heritage Hotel in his white Subaru minibus Roberto. The Via Madonna dell’Arco street can only be used with an extremely narrow vehicle. At number 30 we stood in front of a charming entrance. As with all entrances, there was also a naive ceramic plaque. German traces of ceramic art can also be admired. The city of Vietri sul Mare belongs to the province of Salerno in the Campania region. The colorful ceramic tiles are handmade and inspire the viewer with a variety of different motifs.
The first glance into the garden resembled an oasis with lemon trees and other Mediterranean plants. As soon as you turn to the sea side, you see the Gulf of Salerno and marvel at the deep blue sea on the Amalfi Coast. Ships with excursionists can be seen and bathing guests swim happily in the shallow water on the beach. Roberto led us to our quarters on the upper floor of the villa. After we had freshened up we could explore the whole property. My son Christoph only wanted to rest in the terrace gardens until dinner.
On the first early evening I dared to walk down the narrow alley to the beach. The stone stairs and walls of the house radiated a dry warmth from the summer heat. I couldn’t stay long, however, because Carlo, the owner of the hotel, reserved a table in a fish restaurant for both of us at 10 p.m. The way to our hotel was exhausting on the way back. Exhausted, I first took a shower and felt like I was reborn. When we went up to the restaurant about 300 meters on the mild summer evening, we could hear music from the beach up to us on that Friday evening. An Italian music band played well-known ever
